A Strichen farm’s Suffolk flock has won a coveted national title.

Essie Suffolks, now based at Adziel Farm, Strichen, walked away with the Brooks Cup (for over 100 ewes) in the recent UK National Suffolk Flock competition.

The flock is based in Strichen, but until three years ago was based at North Essie, St Fergus, for more than 30 years.

Commenting on the achievement, flock owner, Irene Fowlie said: “We were delighted that our Suffolk Flock - Essie Suffolks - won the Brooks Cup.

“The flock won the reserve award for the Progeny class (Chebsey Cup) with ewes by Drinkstone Heavyweight.

“The flock also was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the Best Stud Rams Category.”

The Brooks Cup was presented to Irene by judge Arthur O’Keeffe of Annakisha flock, Co Cork on November 7.

The Essie flock was the only Sciottish flock to win a best ewes award.

The Under 30 ewes category was won by a flock from Wales, while the Under 60 ewes and 60-100 sections were won by flocks from England.

The Essie flock was produced the top UK recorded lamb ram in 2013, 2012 and 2011. Essie flock bred and own the second and fourth top Recorded Stock Sires in 2013

It is now exporting Semen to Canada and Europe.
