League Two champions Peterhead are officially the pride of Buchan!
Having been presented with the league trophy on Saturday, the Blue Toon are also set to pick up the coveted Pride of Buchan title after members of the Buchan area committee voted unanimously to present them with the award.
The latest accolade brings an end to what was Peterhead FC’s most successful season in history, with only one more game left before League One football beckons next season.
Giving their backing to the Blue Toon, councillors described Jim McInally’s team as “an inspiration’ to youngsters.
Buchan area committee chair, Cllr Stuart Pratt, said: “The whole area is extremely proud of the team and what it has achieved.
“Peterhead is the only Aberdeenshire team in the top ranks and to be doing so well is just great. I’ve no doubt their good form will continue next season,” he added.
Commenting on the award, club chairman, Rodger Morrison, said that the award would be “warmly received’ by both players and staff.
“We are extremely grateful to the Buchan area committee for this recognition and are proud that the club’s success is putting Peterhead on the map,” he said.
“We would be delighted to accept this award.”
The League Two title is the first senior title Peterhead has claimed in its 123-year history and hundreds of fans packed Balmoor Stadium on Saturday - the last home game of the season - to see the trophy handed over to the champions.
