Buchan Peterson Pipe Band have been crowned European Grade 2 champions after an impressive display at the championships held at Forres recently.
The title adds to an impressive run of successes for the band having lifted the British chamionship title only last month.
And having won events more recently at Aberdeen Highland Games, the band remains unbeaten in all competitions this year.
The 45-strong band was well placed to rally to the challenge from other top Grade 2 bands from across the country and Europe having upped their practice schedule ahead of the competition.
An added bonus on this occasion was winning the drumming championship under Leading Drummer, Brian Martin.
He told the Buchanie: “The corps is playing particularly well presently making a real dynamic contribution to the overall musical performance something clearly recognised by the adjudicators.
“Winning the drumming award at a major championship is no mean feat and a real credit for the unit.”
Saturday’s win was particularly exciting for young piper Danny Hutcheson (15,) from Peterhead.
In only two outings with the Grade 2 outfit at major events, he now adds a European Championship to his hall of fame after the bands’ triumph at the British Championship on his first outing!
It was shared honours for brothers Liam and Scott Walker also from Peterhead. Like Danny, they came through the band’s teaching structure and have enjoyed major honours in the past.
Liam is a seasoned member of the pipe corps now and younger brother Scott (17), was formerly Leading Drummer of the Buchan Grade 4 band.
Robert Skinner, band chairman, was jubilant over the result, stating: “As a band we were confident of being well placed to win a top prize at this one on the back of our Bathgate win.
“We anxiously waited for the Buchan name to be announced. To then march out of Grant Park with full major honours made the day really special.
“Winning the drumming was the icing on the cake”.
The band led by Pipe Major Scott Oliphant, now goes forward in quest of another major honour when contesting The Scottish Championship at Dumbarton at the end of July.
