THE Buchan area faced travel chaos following severe flash flooding in the early hours of yesterday (Monday).
Motorists in Peterhead saw heavy rainfall affect a number of roads in and around the town.
Some of the areas worst affected included Crossfolds Crescent and Cairntrodlie in Peterhead, one of the roundabouts near to the town’s Asda store and the busy by-pass road.
There was also extensive flooding reported at Stirling Village at the entrance to Boddam, while town centre roads were also hazardous. In some places, motorists were unable to drive through the water and had to turn back and find alternative routes.
Several buildings were reported to have suffered from flood damage in the deluge which lasted well into the morning.
The Buchanie’s phonelines were kept busy with Peterhead folk reporting chaos on the roads and in some cases, residents were not able to force their way through the body of water to get out of their street.
One resident of Crossfolds Crescent told us: “Folk aren’t getting through the depth of water and they are stranded here. The rain levels have been exceptional. I’ve never seen so much water,” he said.
Another Blue Toon resident said: “I had difficulty getting down past the community centre. The water at the crossing was just so deep, there was quite a tailback at one point,” she said.
