Aliah Buchan attended the North East Scotland College Awards Ceremony at Fraserburgh Campus on Saturday October 4, to celebrate completing an HNC in Engineering Practice which she studied as part of an apprenticeship at Score Group.
At just 20 years old, Aliah Buchan has already completed five years of an apprenticeship with Score.
With only one year of her training to go, she is looking forward to a bright future in the oil and gas industry.
Aliah left Peterhead Academy at the end of her fourth year and, after being put forward by her guidance teacher, joined Score Group as an apprentice.
She had been keen on going offshore to work and had enjoyed workshop based classes at school so applying for the Score apprenticeship scheme made perfect sense.
She said: “My stepdad and uncle both work offshore and, when they realised I was keen to follow in their footsteps, they were both really positive and encouraged me to go for it.”
Aliah has attended North East Scotland College throughout her apprenticeship on a day release basis.
She said, “I would recommend the college for studying the theory and also the practical side of HNC Engineering Practice as this has helped me a lot during my training”.
Looking to the future, she said, “I’m really enjoying the apprenticeship and now I’ve only got a year left, I can’t wait to see the opportunities that it brings in the future.”
