MARGARET Dalgarno, president, welcomed everyone to Maud WRI’s business meeting. After the conclusion of dealing with business matters, members were given a detailed annual report from the treasurer and also from the secretary reminding everyone of the enjoyment had over the past year.
All committee members were thanked for their help in making the various meetings go so well. Everyone dealt so well with their various tasks asked of them.
Longside WRI members were then welcomed who very ably entertained with quizzes, sketches and lovely singing - very talented ladies.
They also formed the new committee as follows:
President - Margaret Dalgarno; vice-president and raffles - Mary Bain; joint secretaries - Sandra Cowie and Helen Ritchie; treasurer - Alice Wilson; press secretary - Margaret Hepburn; competitions and magazines - Dorothy Panton; group delegate - Frances Anderson.
The competitions were ably judged by ladies from Longside WRI and resulted as follows:
Six months’ syllabus - 1 Mary Fraser, 2 Sandra Cowie, 3 Margaret Dalgarno, h/c Helen Ritchie; a foliage plant - 1 Alice Wilson, 2 Margaret Cardno, 3 Mary Fraser.
Mrs V. May handed over the rose bowl and president’s prize for the most points for the monthly competitions to Dorothy Panton with 26 points, runner-up was Mary Fraser with 25 points. Alice Wilson gained the prize for introducing most friends during the past year. The junior winner was Maisie Cowie.
Margaret Dalgarno gave the vote of thanks to everyone for such an enjoyable evening.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 17, in the village hall at 7.30pm. The group is delighted to welcome Margo Airth from Ythanbank speaking on her days as a tiller girl dancer. All members and visitors will be made most welcome.
