AROUND 200 primary children attended the MegaKids Club’s first meeting at Apex Church recently.
The popular club, which has been running for the past 14 years, moved from its base at The Barn at Faith Acres during the Easter school holidays to its new venue in the church on the town’s Chapel Street.
Matthew Morgan who runs the club, told the Buchanie it wasn’t an easy move, with 14 years’ worth of kit to sort through and pack up.
“I went and bought 200 pastic storage boxes and even that wasn’t enough!” explained Matthew.
“However, we finally got everything transferred across and the kids are loving their new base,” he said.
“As Apex Church is in the heart of the community we felt that the kids club should also be located within the church so we decided to make the move after 13 years at The Barn.”
Matthew was delighted at the turnout of 200 children on the first night and hopes the club can continue to grow.
“The club runs on Fridays from 7pm to 8.30pm and is open to any primary school-age children,” he said.
“We have been able to modernise with the move, doubling the screens and we are looking to put in a third video wall.
“Have now also have a built-in tank which is ideal for gunging,” he said.
“We are very much like TISWAS meets Saturday morning TV with a bit of Sunday School added for good measure!
“Everything is completely free of charge. The only thing you need money for is the tuck shop.
“Buses are run each week and to ensure the children are safe at all times, and the times and pick-up points remain the same as they were prior to the move.
“We welcome all children to the club and can guarantee plenty of messy fun,” he added.
