Inner Wheel Club of Peterhead
At the May meeting, President Sheena Willox welcomed visitors from the Inner Wheel clubs of Fraserburgh, Banff and Ellon and introduced guest speaker, Keira Grassick of the “Chocolate Box” in Ellon.
Keira, who also has her own company, “Chocolat Passions”, gave a brief history of chocolate, explaining that it was once so valuable that it was used as currency. Chocolate was originally a bitter drink, used by the Mayans and Aztecs in regal and religious ceremonies. The Spanish Conquistador, Hernan Cortez, took it back to Spain from where its use spread across Europe and to Britain.
After describing the modern process of chocolate-making, Keira answered question about chocolate in general about using chocolate in cooking and baking.
