Blue Toon couple to enjoy Olympic ‘kiss’

A BUCHAN couple have been selected to carry the Olympic Torch when it visits Aberdeenshire next week.

Husband and wife Stephen and Roselyn Bruce will carry the torch through Drumoak when it arrives in Aberdeenshire on Monday.

Nominated for the honour by Banff and Buchan MP Dr Eilidh Whiteford, as well as three others, the couple said that they were “delighted” to be chosen to carry the flame and will get to ‘kiss’ as they do so.

“The term for passing the flame from one person to another is called kissing,” explained Stephen.

“It’s a great honour for us both to have been selected.”

Mr Bruce added: “When Roselyn and I carry the Olympic torch in Drumoak, we won’t just be carrying it for ourselves, but will be representing all our family and friends and for all those people whose dedication to getting our country more active often goes unrecognised.”

Stephen and Roselyn have worked tirelessly to bring national fitness initiative JogScotland to Peterhead, and have recently launched a walking group to encourage witness among townsfolk.

Dr Whiteford said: “Stephen and Roselyn’s commitment to encouraging local people to participate in sports and lead a healthy lifestyle has been an inspiration.”

“The Bruces have an infectious enthusiasm for their community, being involved in a range of activities in Peterhead.”
