Short-term plan for Clerkhill area

SHORT-term and long-term plans have been drawn up to improve the area of ground outside the Clerkhill shopping area in Peterhead.

Members of the town’s community council held a meeting on Thursday to determine how the area could be improved.

All shop owners at Clerkhill had been invited to the meeting, along with local councillors.

However, only Oasis owner Irene Duff attended, representing some of the shop owners, while Councillor Stuart Pratt was the only local authority representative.

Community council secretary Gordon Farman admitted the turnout had been ‘disappointing’ but said the meeting had been positive.

“We came up with a short-term solution which would see us apply for community funding and utilise community groups to remove the cobbles and replace them with grass,” he said. “We also have a long-term solution to apply for a community grant to have plans drawn up by an architectural firm to see what’s available and how much it would cost.

“It would seem that the shops are responsible for the land - which is unfortunate - but we now have a plan in place and hopefully we can get the area cleared up in the short-term.

“We will write to the shop owners with the details and take things from there,” he added.
