A series of free events are being held across Aberdeenshire as part of the national Book Week Scotland from November 26, to December 2.

This is the inaugural year for Book Week Scotland – a celebration of books and reading for everyone in the country – which is supported by the Year of Creative Scotland and Scottish Book Trust.

People the length and breadth of Scotland are being encouraged to take part in the first ever week-long national celebration of reading, and to participate in a wide range of free events to be held throughout the week.

Aberdeenshire Council is joining in the celebrations by offering a packed programme of free events for book lovers at libraries across the region.

At Peterhead Library on Friday, November 30 (2pm – 4pm) there will be ‘Great Reads for Winter Nights’ with Alex Gray and Caro Ramsay, two of Scotland’s bestselling crime writers who will talk about their own writing as well as what they like to read.

Some of Scotland’s best known authors and storytellers are taking part in the events which will all be ticketed, but free of charge.

A series of special Bookbug sessions for families with babies, toddlers and young children, are also being held across Aberdeenshire.

Chair of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning & Leisure Committee, Cllr Isobel Davidson, said: “The inaugural Book Week Scotland is an exciting event and I am proud to see that Aberdeenshire Council is taking part with such a full programme of events.

“There are lots of interesting events taking place across Aberdeenshire and across a wide range of genres. I think there is something for everybody.”

For information or to reserve a free ticket, contact the library holding the event you are interested in.
