A PETERHEAD bakery has been awarded the second highest accolade for its pies from The Scotch Pie Club.

The Hame Bakery of Peterhead was presented with silver award at the 14th World Scotch Pie Championships.

Following the busiest judging day ever and with a record entry of more than 100 butchers and bakers entering some 500 pies, pasties, sausage rolls, bridies and savouries into the competition, The Hame Bakery can truly be proud to have produced one of the best Blue Toon Pies in the land.

Bakery owner, Patrick Jackson told the Buchanie: “We are delighted with our win here today and can go away with our heads held very high indeed.

“To have been judged as one of the best in land against so many of our peers is a huge achievement.

“Our Blue Toon pie is very popular, especially at this time of year as customers can come in and get them heated up instead of just cold.”

The competition, which has run for 14 years, aims to highlight that bakers and butchers create high quality artisan pastry products.

“Recognising the ‘great and the good’ in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry,” says head judge Robert Ross who has, for many years now, overseen the judging process to ensure only the best pies are recognised and that only the best of the best is crowned world champion.

Alan Stuart, competition founder, added: “I am a proud man! Once again we have brought together the best pies and baked goods in the land and today we can really celebrate the achievement of our hard working butchers and bakers.

“My heartfelt congratulations go to our winner, and indeed everyone taking away a prize, they are all winners in my book.”
