Till bells ring during sales

Businesses in Peterhead are enjoying an early boost to 2013 as the Christmas and New Year sales got underway.

Shops had their windows emblazoned with large posters advertising discounts of half price or more to lure customers.

With schools and businesses both on holiday, shoppers of all ages were out getting some bargains.

The town centre was bustling and the presence of so many people proves that there is still life in the Blue Toon - despite the odd For Sale sign and empty premises.

Charity shops have felt a positive impact on business as Barnardo’s shop manager Mandy Ross said: “We have done quite well, we have 50 per cent off some of our stock and people tend to buy more if there is a reduced price.

“We have seen more people come in and we have also recieved lots of donations due to people having a clear out over Christmas.”

Mandy added: “We have had feedback from the public saying they like our religious Christmas cards so since we have reduced the price of them they have been flying off the shelves.”

Meanwhile ladieswear retailer Dorothy Jacks has seen a significant increase in footfall at the shop since the start of their Winter Sale period.

To show their appreciation of the great local support the shop has received, they have reductions on offer which give customers the opportunity to pick up a genuine bargain.

Manager of sports shop DFS, Val Dunn, said: “It is mostly people coming in and spending their Christmas money.

“Considering the size of Peterhead, we have been doing not too bad. We are selling a mix of different products but our sale stock is selling well.

Val added: “It is good to see people shopping locally instead of being tempted to go to Aberdeen.”
