THE Buchan Observer has received the coveted Pride of Buchan award to commemorate its 150th anniversary.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Buchan Area Committee hosted a civic reception for the seven members of staff in Arbuthnot House earlier today (Tuesday).

Presenting the award, committee chairman Councillor Stuart Pratt said it recognised 150 years of loyal service to the Buchan community.

Editor Ken Duncan said it was indeed a very auspicious occasion for the Buchan Observer, particularly in testing times for newspapers generally.

He said: “For any business to have survived since 1863 is an incredible achievement and we would like to thank Aberdeenshire Council for bestowing the Pride of Buchan award on us.

“Everyone who has played a role in the Buchanie’s rich heritage can rightly feel very proud that they have contributed to a real part of Buchan history.”

The Buchanie will be celebrating the milestone throughout the year including publication of a special Back in the Day.
