Members of the Buchan Area committee have approved the allocation of local regeneration funds for Peterhead at their meeting on Tuesday.
In December 2010 a report was submitted to the committee regarding a Regeneration Action Plan with an associated allocation of £75,000.
Members were told that the funds available to works in the Buchan area amounted to £107,037 and had been carried on from 2012 into 2013.
It is proposed that £80,037 be allocated for town centre actions which were deemed a “main priority”.
These include updating and refurbishing maps and signs, cleaning of guttering and new lighting.
There were also proposals to create a Refresh Fund for ideas for town centre improvements from businesses and communities.
The cash will also be used to support the Placemaking agenda promoting creativity and supporting the development of social enterprise.
A following £15,000 is to be spent on a MiCity smartphone app which is aimed at attracting shoppers and tourists to the area, while Dales Industrial Estate on the outskirts of town is to benefit from a £12,000 promotion injection.
The first stage in the project will be to carry out a survey of households in the area surrounding Peterhead.
It had been proposed that community planning staff organise this survey and approval had been sought for this.
Councillors heard that Peterhead Community Council has been consulted and have contributed to the development of the survey.
Following that, councillors unanimously voted to approve the plans and work will start on the project soon.
