A PETERHEAD fish processor is battling against the odds and the elements to get his business back in action.

Nasar Rashid, owner of Mapco, saw his business crippled when December’s storms destroyed his harbour premises.

But while he is forging ahead with plans for a major £3 million replacement on the existing site, Nasar has also purchased premises from FreshCatch on the town’s Seagate to hold wet stocks for the replacement drying factory which will be located at their existing site at Gerrie’s Yard .

The Seagate facility formerly housed a B&Q despatch facility and will enable the firm to continue trading in the face of competition from others companies.

The company mainly deals with dried fish products, catering specifically for the African market.

Nasar told the Buchanie, which also has offices on the premises: “We are indebted to Chris Anderson of FreshCatch for his kindness and support during this testing time for our company.

“It is vital we maintain our business in Peterhead and to that end we are in discuission with suppliers who have been very supportive and understanding.”

In time Mapco hopes to diversify its operations into other market areas to help develop the company.
