Macrae Foods tour

Food and drink companies got an insight into added-value seafood production and product development as part of a visit to Macrae Foods in Fraserburgh last week

Macrae Foods is subsidiary of Young’s Seafood Ltd, which sits within the Findus Group. The Findus Group is one of Europe’s largest frozen food and seafood companies with leading brands, 6000 employees and over £1.1 billion turnover. It is the parent company of Young’s Seafood and Findus.

In the UK, Young’s is the leading branded producer and distributor of seafood, with a 200 year old heritage of selling a wide range of high quality seafood products.

The Fraserburgh site employs 750 people and is able to supply a wide variety of products through innovative use of product development and operational capabilities within primary processing, traditional smoking kilns, delicatessen, shellfish preparation and marinades.

The visit was led by the Senior Management Team, along with Managing Director, Stuart Gibson. Stuart said “We were pleased to welcome fellow producers to see our operation at Fraserburgh. Although we all operate in varying sectors and on a different scale, we share common issues.”

Gregor Mackintosh of Mackintosh of Glendaveny said “I have been supplying Macrae Foods for two and a half years and it’s great to have a company on my doorstep who are keen to use local and sustainable produce.

“Today’s visit was a good opportunity for me to get into the factory and see some of the end products.”
