Local Cat Protection issues urgent plea

The Peterhead branch of Cats Protection has issued an urgent plea for help from members of the public.

The local unit is facing severe pressure on its resources following a recent increase in the numbers of cats it is having to look after and re-home.

Co-ordinator Colleen Smith said: “We rely on members of the public for their support and we are extremely grateful for the assistance and contributions we have received to date from people in the Buchan area.

“We are, however, constantly on the lookout for people who are willing to offer a good home to a needy cat, provide short-term fostering for cats or kittens, and for people to spare an hour or two to help run one of our fundraising stalls, as well as general donations of cash and cat food.

“Any assistance people can provide will be appreciated, no matter how small.”

Banff & Buchan MP Dr Eilidh Whiteford met with the group at one of their fundraising stalls recently and commented: “Animal welfare is close to a lot of people’s hearts and I commend the group for the work which it does. The Cat Protection volunteers do a great deal of good work in caring for and re-homing cats who can provide a lot of love and affection in return.

“I would urge anyone interested in helping out to get in touch with the local branch in Peterhead who will be only too happy to hear from you.”

Anyone wishing to help can contact Colleen Smith on 07866 800563 or colleen-smith47@hotmail.com
