AN announcement is imminent on the proposed works to transform Peterhead’s rundown Chapel Street flats into a hotel.

The application, submitted by Blackbridge Limited on behalf of Grampian Design Associated, won planning permission back in August.

The Buchanie has learned that there has been considerable movement behind the scenes in the intervening months prior to the developers applying to Aberdeenshire Council for a building warrant.

Peterhead councillor Alan Gardiner said he had been liaising with the developers regularly and was heartened by the news.

He told us: “They really are very excited by the prospect of this development and I am impressed by the volume of work going on behind the scenes. In this type of development you cannot set specific timescales but I hope they would be in a position in the not-too-distant future to bring us some really positive news.”
