On Wednesday last week at the Buchan Development Forum held in Mintlaw Academy the Crichie Community Inn Steering Group (CCISG) was awarded £750 from the Shell Small Grants Fund.

The Crichie Inn is currently for sale, with some local residents concerned that the future purchaser might seek to alter the function of the inn, depriving the residents of Stuartfield of this important social asset.

The CCISG was formed at a public meeting of more than 90 residents in Stuartfield last month to explore the possibility of buying and maintaining the inn under community ownership, ensuring its continuing existence in the village.

At a follow-up public meeting last week a constitution was agreed and officers of the group elected.

With the award of the Shell grant, in addition to grants already obtained, the group now has sufficient funds tohave the inn surveyed and valued - the first step in determining the scale of the fundraising required.

The CCISG gratefully acknowledges the grants provided by the Area Initiative Scheme, Aberdeen Asset Fund, the Aberdeen Community Planning Partnership, and Shell UK, and thanks the Buchan Development Partnership for its advice and support.

People interested in participating in the group are invited to contact secretary, Geoff Ewing, geoffewing@btinternet.com or chairman, John Ollason, john@houseofdeer.co.uk
