Consultation on Regional Transport Strategy underway
Nestrans, the regional transport partnership for Aberdeen City and Shire, has launched a main issues report, as the first stage in a refresh of its Regional Transport Strategy (RTS).
The original RTS was approved by Government Ministers in 2008 and provides the strategic framework for the development of the north east’s transport network in the period to 2021.
Comprising a £1 billion package of proposals for the upgrade of the road and rail networks, it also encourages the promotion of public transport, cycling and walking and calls for investment to improve linkages to the north-east.
Nestrans are now consulting on possible amendments to the approved strategy and how they should extend it to cover the period to 2030/35, to facilitate the proposed levels of growth forecast in the region’s Local Development Plans.
This will require further road and public transport schemes as well as investment in active travel in addition to schemes already in the pipeline.
