Peterhead & District Racing Pigeon Club held its latest old bird race at the weekend from Rotherham, a distance of approximately 282 miles to which nine members sent 198 birds.
The race was put back 24 hours to Sunday, June 7, due to the heavy rain in England.

Sunday dawned a better day and the convoy of 1,048 birds were liberated by the North of Scotland Federation at 8am into a East North East wind.

This was the f
irst time this season that the birds had to face a headwind and thus a difficult race was on the cards.

Making it three wins on the trot and five for the season so far were Maskame & Mackie who timed a two-year-old cock after seven hours and 40 minutes to take the red card and lift the Rotherham Trophy.

Clint Williams timed a yearling cock six minutes later to win the trophy for first yearling. The sad faces at clcok checking told the real story with many a bird missing, with most members reporting less than 50 percent returns.

Results as follows in yards per minute:
1 Maskame & Mackie (1081), 2 Clint Williams (1053), 3 George Taylor (1043), 4 Irvine Buchan (1037), 5 Harry Hailwood (1035), 6 George Taylor (1028), 7 George Taylor (0124), 8 Chris Donaldson (1012), 9 Irvine Buchan (995), 10 Irvine Buchan (992), 11 Dave Wright (935), 12 Robert Whyte (914).
