A STUNNING Mark Stainton shot on the hour-mark was enough to take all three points for Longside against Banks o' Dee on Saturday.
It was never a classic game at Davidson Park, but a good haul of Superleague points for Longside nevertheless.
The defence looked solid throughout with Herbie Craik outstanding in the middle.
Dee were first to press when a McWilliam corner w
as scrambled clear by the Longside defence.
At the other end Danton took a return pass from Geddes but his shot was blocked. A Triton strike from the edge of the box was blocked by Craik before being cleared.
A Danton corner was met by Craik but his header was cleared off the line. Craik was in the thick of the action again when he blocked a dangerous cross from McWilliam.
Wood beat Dee keeper Pennet to a high ball but his header was cleared upfield. A mistake by Longside allowed Reid to race clear but his chip shot was saved by Thomson before Reid's effort from the rebound was cleared by Craik.
A long range shot from Phillips was deflected but Thomson did well to save. Christie turned his man well in 35 minutes but his shot was saved by Pennet. Four minutes later Black burst forward before finding Geddes but his cross was cleared.
Craik had a good chance for Longside in 42 minutes when he got on the end of a Beddie free kick but his header went over the bar. Just before half-time a shot from Campbell was well saved by Thomson.
A fine cross from Turnball was well defended by Geddes before getting the ball clear. In the 48th minute a fine cross from Black was headed narrowly wide by Christie.
A long throw from Stewart found Triton but his shot went wide.
The deadlock was broken in the 60th minute when Mark Stainton sent an unstoppable shot past Pennet from 25 yards.
Longside made a change five minutes later when Reid replaced Wood.
A Panton corner was cleared out to Christie and when he played it back into the middle, Geddes headed just over the bar.
A McNamee corner for the visitors was headed over the top by Dick from eight yards. Foy had a good chance for Dee when he stole into the box but his shot was saved by Thomson.
Longside made a second change when Murray came on for Christie in 78 minutes and he almost made an immediate impact when he ran onto a Danton pass but his shot was cleared.
This Saturday Longside are away to Hermes in the Superleague - kick off 2.30pm.
