HALLOWE'EN proved to be far from a nightmare for Peterhead as they continued their good form, bagging another three points to take them right back into contention in the Second Division.
While boss Neale Cooper admitted his side rode their luck in the second half, the win sees them just six points off the top spot and gives the Blue Toon a confidence boost prior to their encounter at East Fife on Saturday.

A delighted Cooper prais
ed his team after they went into an early lead thanks to a Callum MacDonald header, and this was quickly followed by a second from on-loan John Stewart, who is rapidly becoming a favourite with the fans after bagging his third goal for the club.

And the dream start continued when Nicky Clark shot low and hard into the net for a half-time lead the fans could only have dreamt of earlier in the season.

Cooper told the Buchanie: "It was a great game for both the players and the fans on Saturday and it was really exciting end-to-end stuff. We were a bit lucky as they had a couple of chances which they failed to capitalise on early on in the game but the next thing we went up the park and got two quick goals.

"They then got a goal back but we stuck in and we scored a third," he said.

Cooper admitted his side rode their luck in the second period, adding: "We defended well and they threw everything they had at us, but we managed to hang on.

"It was a massive, massive three points for us. If we had lost on Saturday then we would have gone 12 points behind, but we got the win and now we are just three points off second spot.

"it's been a good last four games for us and the lads have upped their game and responded to the criticism.

"Sometimes you need a wee bit of luck but we had some great goalkeeping out there on Saturday and Nicky Clark was excellent in the middle of the park.

"John Stewart has been a bit of a hit for us and he took his goal really well. There were mistakes in the second half when the midfield was just too far back, but we rode it out and we got the points."

Cooper admitted there were still certain players who had to do a bit better on the park.

"They know who they are as I had a word with them after the game, but all in all we are starting to play better and we just have to keep it up and hopefully we'll still be up there over the next few games."

Peterhead now face an Aberdeenshire Shield game against Cove Rangers tonight (Tuesday), and a trip to the Kingdom on Saturday when they take on East Fife away from home in what Cooper says will be another tough game.

"It's going to be a hard game for us again on Saturday, but over the piece against them we have a reasonable record," he said.

"We have no injuries and Bobby Mann will be available for the squad tonight for the game against Cove Rangers after his suspension.

"We are looking forward to Saturday's game and hopefully we can continue our good form and give the fans another cracking game," he added.
