Longside won 5–4 on penalties to proceed to the next round of the McLeman Cup at the expense of Ellon United on Saturday.
Thomson, Panton, Cameron, Danton and Brown were the heroes for Longside in a thrilling encounter at The Meadows.
It was a great game to watch with chances scarce from both sides, but Longside go on for a trip to Hermes in the second round.
The
home side were first on the attack when a Petrie free kick found Edmond but he fired the ball behind. Henry had a shot from the edge of the box but his shot was well saved by Thomson.
A Panton shot was blocked before falling to Wood but he drove his shot well wide. A Chalmers corner for Ellon was headed behind by Black for another corner, this time Petrie's kick found Gunn but his ball back into the Longside goal area was cleared.
There was a great chance for Cowie when he stole in from the left but he couldn't direct his shot on target. Minutes later a Danton corner was headed over the bar by Black. With 35 minutes gone a wicked corner from Cowie was fisted clear by Bowman.
A minute later good work from Davison put Danton clear, his shot beat the keeper but slipped past the post.
Longside took the lead in the 40th minute when a Craik free kick was headed down by Black for Davidson and his angled shot was brilliantly saved by Bowman but Ben Danton followed up to score.
A minute later Danton collected a long ball from Thomson but his shot was defelcted clear. Just on half time a high ball from Annand was headed clear by Wood.
The home side equalised in the 54th minute when a clever strike from Matthew Edmond went over Thomson and into the net. Two minutes later Longside, however, regained the lead when a Cowie show was bravely headed into the net by Morven Wood.
Longside made a change on the hour-mark with Cameron replacing Davidson. A good ball into the box from Stainton found Bruce but his shot was blocked before being cleared. A Danton volley from a tight angle was well parried clear by Bowman.
Ellon levelled the scores again ten minutes from time when Callum Stewart got on the end of an Edmond cross to fire the ball into the net. Two minutes later Thomson made a superb save from a Chalmers shot.
But Ellon stunned Longside when they took the lead in the 86th minute when an Edmond cross was met by Ryan Petrie who clipped the ball into the net.
A minute later the home side were awarded a penalty when Chalmers was brought down inside the box only for Henry to fire his kick wide.
Stewart had a great chance to put the game beyond doubt when he was sent clear but he fired his shot wide of the target.
But Longside launched one last assault on the Ellon goal in injury time and it paid off when a Thomson clearance found Ben Danton and he chipped the ball over Bowman and into the net.
As said before the penalty heroes for Longside were Thomson, Panton, Cameron, Danton and Brown, with Forsyth, Petrie, Edmond and Henry the scorers for Ellon
