James Duthie, fresh from a two-year stint as coach with Buchanhaven Hearts, is set to replace Kris Hunter as manager, with Billy Smith as assistant manager and Stevie Doaker as goalkeeping coach.

A former player with Buchanhaven Hearts and Longside, James is no stranger to Maud Juniors, having played for the side for a year before being forced to stop due to ankle problems.

Speaking to the Buchanie, James said the opportunity was just too good to turn down, explaining: "The last two years with Buchanhaven Hearts have been brilliant and I'd really like to thank the committee, the players and the management staff there for all their support.

"This was just too good an opportunity to turn down what with the facilities and the backing from the committee here, and obviously I played for a year here so I'm aware of how good the players are."

Looking forward to the new season James is keen to build on last season's performance and boost Maud Juniors up the Superleague table.

He said: "Last year Maud finished eighth in the league so we're hoping to improve on that. Kris Hunter, who has moved to Turriff has left a good base here to work on. We're also hoping to bring in a few new players to strengthen the team but can't say who just yet."

And James said he was glad to have the support and experience of Billy and Stevie behind him as the team prepares for the 2009-2010 season, adding: "I'm looking forward to it. I'm still relatively inexperienced in terms of coaching so I can learn a lot from Billy and Stevie, their help will be really invaluable."

Maud Juniors are now gearing up for their first test of the season as they prepare to kick off the Grill League Cup on Saturday, August 1 with a home game against Fraserburgh United.
