Action-packed sessions in second round of Boyndie Challenge

THE second round of Grampian Kart Club's Boyndie Challenge was held at Boyndie Drome race circuit on Sunday, May 24, in dry sunny conditions.
Results were as follows:
Honda Cadets - 1 Steven Allan (Huntly), 2 Scott Murray (Inverurie), 3 Gordon Mutch (Aberdeen).

Comer Cadets - 1 Jamie Chick (Fyvie), 2 Connor Wilson (Rothiemay), 3 Merlin Aldrick (Turriff).

Mini Max - 1 Frazer Huntley (Mintlaw), 2 Andrew Webb (
Aberdeen), 3 Brendan Walker (Aberlour).

Junior Max - 1 Bibi Aldrick (Turriff), 2 Ross Greig (Fraserburgh), 3 Chris Walker (Aberlour).

Senior Max - 1 Gordon Hawton (Boddam), 2 Gary Clark (Macduff), 3 Neil Ferguson (Ellon).

Prokarts - 1 Keiran Smart (Oldmeldrum), 2 Adam Grant (Sauchen), 3 Mark Wyness (Inverurie).

Gearbox - 1 Graham Mutch (Elgin), 2 Darren McDonald (Mosstodloch), 3 Rob Walker (Aberlour).

Cadets

A mixed grid of Comer and Honda cadets saw Jamie Chick in his Comer cadet take the lead from Connor Wilson in a similar kart. Chick opened up a gap over his close rival to take the victory. Young Gordon Mutch was the third Comer home.

Steven Allan from James Wood, Scott Murray and Merlin Aldrick headed the Honda engined karts. Wood spun out at Seafield on the second tour. Allan went on to win the class with Scott Murray second ahead of Aldrick.

Mini Max

Frazer Huntley took the victory over Andrew Webb. Brendan Walker came third ahead of Michael Wilson.

Junior Max
Bibi Aldrick led away from Chris Walker, Ross Greig, Darren Patrick and Luke Geddes. Greig got the better of Walker on the second lap.
Aldrick eased away for her first victory of the season. Greig and Walker maintained positions at he flag. Geddes moved up to fourth at mid distance and held the position to the flag from Patrick and Niall Kingdom.

Senior Max

Gordon Hawton took a lights to flag victory despite coming under intense pressure from Scott Rennie in a 100cc kart until mechanical problems intervened with two laps remaining and retired.
John Simpson took over the position but Gary Clark moved up followed by Neil Ferguson. Simpson finished fourth with Mike Rose fifth who was followed home by Andrew Wisely.

Prokarts

A group of three, Keiran Smart, Mark Wyness and Adam Grant soon opened a gap over the rest of the field following a multi-off at Pit corner. The maintained positions throughout the race with the gaps oscillating. However on the last lap Grant had the better run through Kevin's Korner to take second from Wyness.

Smart took the victory. Scott Lawson had a clear run through for fourth. Barrie Ross had changed positions with Andrew Smith on lap six to take fifth and Smith sixth.

Gearbox

Graham Mutch rapidly eased away from the field to take a comfortable win.
Rob Walker had slotted into second ahead of Darren McDonald. McDonald made his move at the end of the straight on lap six where he out-braked Walker.

Walker kept up the pressure but McDonald held on to take second. Darren Patrick was closing down the pair in front but run out of laps to take fourth. Colin Mutch was fifth.

Alison Harper presented the trophies in the clubhouse following the meeting.

The next race meeting at Boyndie will take place on Sunday, June 14, which will include the third round of the Scottish Super Series with the racing starting at 11am.
