had nightmares last night,,thinking about the buchaners,i seen the big chimneys belching out the smoke, and all the little particles of deadly viruses and bacterias falling down on the blue toon, which turned a dirty grey,,,,someone can make a lot of money by opening a surgical mask factory....

The London Borough of Southwark is sandwiched between two incinerators - the municipal SELCHP one in Lewisham and also the one at Kings College Hospital.

The recent SEPA report on health effects of incineration has several pages referring to the Japanese study of 2004 which found elevated rates of infant deaths around 63 incinerators (J Epidemiol. 2004 May;14(3):83-93. Risk of adverse reproductive outcomes associated with proximity to municipal solid waste incinerators with high dioxin emission levels in Japan.).

It's unfortunate for Peterhead residents that SEPA haven't bothered to find out the 2008 infant mortality rates in London Boroughs as Southwark is "top of the league" again after also having the highest infant death rate in London in 2007.

Lewisham had the 2nd-highest infant death rate out of 32 London Boroughs in 2008 and Lambeth the 5th-highest.

Kingston upon Thames had the lowest rate and being free from incinerator emissions had an infant death rate of 0.9 per 1,000 live births while Southwark's rate was nearly eight-times greater at 7.0 per 1,000.

Kind regards,

Michael Ryan,
Shrewsbury
