PETERHEAD'S Cancer Research Shop received a cheque for almost £1,000 last week after three local girls donated cash from their birthday bash.

However, the generous gesture from Ashleigh Forman, Fiona McLaughlin and Bethany Gordon could end up being used to pay for a broken window after vandals attacked the shop sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The trio, who raised £926.75 from their birthday party held at Longhaven Hall on June 20, went along to the Drummers Corner shop on Wednesday morning to hand over the cheque to shop manager Sheena Booth.
And while there, Sheena pointed out the damage done to the side window, which is set to cost the charity £1,000.
Sheena told the Buchanie: It's sickening that these three girls have been so generous and done this and now it looks as though that money will have to go to pay for a new window because of mindless morons who have vandalised it.
"It looks as though it happened through the night on Monday into Tuesday and it's going to cost us £1,000 as that's what our insurance excess is," she said.
"Whoever did it did not steal anything, but the stuff in the window was broken and it looks as though it was just an act of mindless vandalism."
The shop was broken into in February this year and at that time the culprits trashed the til and stole items from within, again causing hundreds of pounds of damage.
"Here we have three young girls doing a wonderful thing for charity and because of these idiotic vandals that money will have to go to pay to repair the damage."
Despite the attack, the Peterhead shop remains busy and has just been named Shop of the Month in the area for May.
Sheena added: "At the beginning of the year we did tail back on donations a bit but as the year has progressed we have been very busy as Peterhead is a very generous place."
Meanwhile, Ashleigh, Fiona and Bethany have expressed thanks to everyone who donated money and supported and helped with their birthday party as well as family and friends for all their help.
They have also thanked ceilidh band, Bratach Bana, who agreed to play for free on the night along with friends Kenny McKenzie, Dave Cherry, Sandy Fettes, Peter Hawkey and Barbara-Ann Burnett. The girls also thanked Gordon and Ewan McKay for pulling everything together and making such a success of the evening.
