A SPECIAL fundraiser is being held in Peterhead next month in a bid to raise cash for a young Crimond lad who suffers from the rare condition Angelman syndrome.
Kieran Buchan (11), has the condition which is characterised by severe learning difficulties and unsteady or jerky movements.

It is a chromosomal disorder caused by the absence of a gene, and 75 percent of those with Angelman syndrome have a simi
lar genetic fault to that found in another genetic condition, Prader-Willi syndrome.

Typical features of Angelman syndrome include epilepsy, severe learning difficulties (with poor communication skills and little or absent speech), an unsteady or ataxic gait, a characteristic facial appearance and a happy disposition.

The fundraiser, which is open to children from primaries 1 to 7, will take the form of a disco which will be held at Mambos on Queen Street from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, April 10.

The disco will be run by Caroline Porter and admission is £3 which is payable at the door on the day.

There will be raffles held during the event and all are welcome to go along and join in the fun.
