PETERHEAD Academy played host to the Check-it-Out team recently when they delivered a full week of action-packed assemblies and lessons to pupils.
During the week of January 17 to 22, the Essex-based team, comprising rock band 'Taste' and drama team 'Diversion', working in partnership with Scripture Union (SU) Scotland and local churches, aimed to creatively engage and encourage young people to
reflect on their own beliefs and values from a Christian perspective.

During the week-local ministers and church representatives gave input into the religious and moral education classes and all 11 local primary schools took the opportunity to bring children to the academy to see and hear Check-It-Out on the morning of Wednesday, January 20.

This provided an important opportunity for children in P7 to visit the academy in preparation for their transition from primary to secondary school. SU Scotland and local churches provided transport to make this possible.

Highlights of the week included a united launch service on the Sunday night and a youth concert on the Thursday night, both of which took place in the town's community theatre. The team also made a visit to the G3 youth café on Broad Street.

SU Scotland is a national youth work organisation which specialises in partnering with local churches in schools work and in providing residential activity holidays for children and young people in the 10-18 age group.

Regional worker for North East and Shetland, Andrew Thompson, is based in Aberdeen, and for more information about SU Scotland go online to www.suscotland.org.uk
